Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg, New York Times bestselling authors of The Heist, return in this action-packed, exciting adventure featuring master con artist Nicolas Fox and die-hard FBI agent Kate O’Hare. And this time around, things go from hot to nuclear when government secrets are on the line.

Internationally renowned thief and con artist Nicolas Fox is famous for running elaborate and daring scams. His greatest con of all: convincing the FBI to team him up with the only person who has ever caught him, and the only woman to ever capture his attention, Special Agent Kate O’Hare. Together they’ll go undercover to swindle and catch the world’s most wanted—and untouchable—criminals.

Their newest target is Carter Grove, a former White House chief of staff and the ruthless leader of a private security agency. Grove has stolen a rare Chinese artifact from the Smithsonian, a crime that will torpedo U.S. relations with China if it ever becomes public. Nick and Kate must work under the radar—and against the clock—to devise a plan to steal the piece back. Confronting Grove’s elite assassins, Nick and Kate rely on the skills of their ragtag crew, including a flamboyant actor, a Geek Squad techie, and a band of AARP-card-carrying mercenaries led by none other than Kate’s dad.

A daring heist and a deadly chase lead Nick and Kate from Washington, D.C., to Shanghai, from the highlands of Scotland to the underbelly of Montreal. But it’ll take more than death threats, trained henchmen, sleepless nights, and the fate of a dynasty’s priceless heirloom to outsmart Fox and O’Hare.

Spin me lots more stories, please!

Carousel Sun (Carousel, #2)Carousel Sun by Sharon Lee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thanks, Baen and Netgalley, for the e-arc for review!

A worthy sequel to Carousel Tides, though a "middle" kind of book. You must read Carousel Tides first. I would call it contemporary fantasy, not urban fantasy, since it takes place in a small town on the Maine coast. It certainly has an urban fantasy feel, with a kick-ass, curmudgeonly heroine and a touch of romance. Kate and Archer's Beach (the town) get filled out a little more, magical system becomes a little clearer (Kate is discovering all this stuff herself, too).

I enjoyed every minute reading it. Sharon Lee is a master of the craft by now and one may not like everything she writes (I like all 20-50 somethings I've read, save one, and am a Liaden fanatic, quietly)--but she keeps a story going and her descriptive qualities and dialogue are excellent. Also, I was happy to see a sympathetic gay character come along in this novel.

I am looking very much forward to learning more about the 6 Worlds, loved the glimpses we got in this book. Highly recommend that there be a series!

Lost & Found

Lost LakeLost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was so happy to get the e-ARC from the publisher! This is my favorite of Sarah's books so far. I think her own recovery from cancer has deepened and strengthened her particular brand of quaint and quirky magical realism.

Tragedy, tenderness, and true love abound in Lost Lake. There's Eby, left lone proprietor of the guest cabins of Lost Lake; her friend, Lisette; Eby's niece, Kate, a recent widow, with her young daughter, Devin. There's the invisible alligator (invisible to all but Devin). There's the townsfolk, who used to come to Lost Lake all the time, but have let it slip away. There's the town handyman/pizza place owner. The greedy developer--his uncle. The three guests who come on to visit Lost Lake even if it's not opening for one last season. There's family and corporate greed, love and lives lost and found.

All of these, ingredients mixed together with love into a delicious banquet for the heart and all the senses. If you've read her other books, you'll like it. If you haven't, just be sure you're willing to invite a little magic into your heart, and read them all.
